Anywhere in Karachi, the final price of a birthday cake comes down to three things: the weight, how much design work goes on top, and delivery. This guide walks through each one so you can set a budget before you call a baker.

Here is our full price list for regular cakes. The same rate applies to every flavour on our cakes page, so you can choose by taste and not by price.

A short name or message on top is free. You do not pay extra for "Happy Birthday Ayaan" in icing.

Why cakes in Karachi are priced by the pound

Most bakers in Karachi sell cakes by the pound because it is the easiest way for a customer to compare. You know your guest count, you know roughly how many people one pound feeds, and you can work out the bill in your head while standing in the kitchen.

The per pound rate covers the sponge, the filling, the frosting and a clean, simple finish. What it does not tell you is the cost of heavy decoration. That is where two cakes of the same weight can end up with very different prices, and it is the part most people do not expect.

What makes a birthday cake cost more

These points are true for almost any bakery in the city, not only ours. None of them is bad. They simply add hours of work or extra material, and the price follows.

Fondant work

A cake covered in smooth fondant, or decorated with fondant shapes, takes much longer than a cake finished in cream or fudge. Every bow, flower and cartoon face is rolled, cut and placed by hand. The more pieces in the design, the higher the quote.

Tiers

A two tier or three tier cake is not just more pounds stacked up. It needs supports inside, more careful levelling and much more careful transport on Karachi roads. Tiers look grand at a first birthday or a big dawat, but they cost more per pound than a single layer cake of the same total weight.

Toppers and figures

Hand made figures, name toppers and themed characters are small sculptures. A simple ready made topper costs little. A set of hand modelled characters can take a baker a whole evening.

Fresh fruit

Fresh fruit prices in Karachi move with the season. Strawberries in winter are one thing, out of season fruit is another. Fruit also has to be bought fresh close to the day, so it adds both cost and planning.

Photo prints

Edible photo prints are popular for kids' parties and office farewells. They need special printing material, and the cake surface has to be finished flat and smooth to carry the print, which adds work.

Budget tips that actually help

You can have a lovely birthday cake without stretching the budget. These are the choices that make the biggest difference.

• Choose the size from the guest count. Ordering 4 pounds for 10 people means half the cake sits in the fridge for days. Count heads first.
• Keep the design clean. A neat cake with the name written on top, fresh candles and a nice cake stand looks good in photos. The message is free.
• Spend on flavour before decoration. Guests remember how the cake tasted. Very few remember the fondant bow.
• Cross the free delivery line. A 2 pound cake is Rs. 3,000, which qualifies for free delivery. A 1 pound cake with a few cupcakes can do the same.
• Add cupcakes for the children. For a school age party, a smaller cake for cutting plus cupcakes at Rs. 240 to 300 each is easy to serve and nothing gets wasted.

• Pick up if you are nearby. Pickup from Bahria Complex 1 on M.T. Khan Road is free.

Delivery cost

Delivery is a flat Rs. 200 to DHA, Clifton, Keamari, Saddar, Gulshan-e-Iqbal and nearby parts of Karachi. Orders of Rs. 3,000 or more are delivered free.

How to get an exact quote

For a regular cake there is nothing to quote. Pounds multiplied by Rs. 1,500, plus Rs. 200 delivery if the order is under Rs. 3,000. You can add it to the cart on the website and see the total yourself.

1. A reference photo of the design you like. This one has to come by email.
2. The size in pounds, or your guest count if you are unsure.
3. The flavour.
4. The name or message for the cake.
5. The date, the time, and your area or pickup.
