Eid Dessert Box and Gift Ideas Beyond Mithai

If you want an Eid gift that is not another box of mithai, a dessert box of fresh bakes is a simple answer: cookies, brownies, cupcakes and donuts, chosen for the person receiving them. It works alongside mithai, not against it, and it is easy to build for any budget because everything is priced per piece.

Why bakes work as Eid gifts alongside mithai

Mithai will always be part of Eid. Nobody is replacing the gulab jamun. The issue is that by the second day of Eid, most homes have four or five boxes of it on the dining table, all quite similar.

A box of bakes stands out for a few practical reasons:

• It is different. When every guest brings mithai, the one box of brownies and cookies is what the children open first.
• It is easy to share. Individual pieces need no cutting and no plates. A host can put them straight on the trolley with chai.
• It suits mixed ages. Donuts and cupcakes for the kids, cookies for the adults with their tea.
• You control the budget. You choose the number of pieces, so the same idea works for a neighbour and for your in-laws.

Box ideas by recipient

A family with kids

Go bright and generous. Children remember the house that sent the donuts.

A good mix is four donuts, four cupcakes and four cookies. Pick colourful donuts like the pink sprinkle or galaxy swirl, and cupcakes with tall frosting. For cookies, the chocolate chunk and the sprinkle cookie are the ones children reach for.

Elders and grandparents

Elders usually prefer something to have with chai over something covered in frosting. Build the box around cookies, such as the Raspberry Linzer Star with its jam centre, and add a few pastries like the almond croissant for breakfast the next morning.

Six cookies and four pastries make a thoughtful box. It also keeps well on the table through a long day of visitors.

Colleagues and office teams

For the office, think per person, not per box. One fudge brownie and one cookie each is neat, fair and easy to hand out on the first day back after the holidays, or on the last working day before Eid.

Neighbours

Sending a plate next door on Eid morning is one of the nicest Karachi habits. A small box works here: three cookies and three brownies is enough to say Eid Mubarak without making anyone feel they must send something bigger back.

Price guide for each box

Our per-piece prices are: cookies Rs. 280 to 540, cupcakes Rs. 240 to 300, donuts Rs. 300 to 380, pastries Rs. 200 to 350 and the fudge brownie Rs. 320. The totals below are ranges because they depend on which items you choose.

To keep a box at the lower end, choose cookies from the Rs. 280 to 320 range. The matcha white chocolate cookie at Rs. 540 is the most expensive one, so use it as a single special piece if you like it.

How many pieces to send

A simple rule is two pieces per person in the household, with a minimum of six so the box does not look empty.

• Couple or small household: 6 pieces
• Family of four to six: 10 to 12 pieces
• Joint family or a house that gets many Eid visitors: 16 to 20 pieces, or add a cake
• Office: 2 pieces per person

For a big joint family, a cake sometimes makes more sense than a very large box. Our cakes are Rs. 1,500 per pound, and a 2 lb cake at Rs. 3,000 serves 8 to 10 people. Chocolate Fudge travels best. The name or "Eid Mubarak" can be written on top for free.

Order a few days ahead of Eid

The days before Eid, whether it is the end of Ramzan or the run-up to Bakra Eid, are busy for every kitchen in the city, including ours. Please order a few days ahead so we can plan the baking. We would rather say this plainly than make promises about last-minute orders.

A quick way to get organised:

1. Write down who you are gifting to and how many people are in each home.
2. Pick a box type for each from the table above.
3. Add everything to the cart and choose the date at checkout, or call 021-34586148 and read us the full list.
4. We confirm what is possible, the total, payment and the delivery or pickup time on the phone.

If you want a themed or custom Eid cake, that needs 2 to 3 days' notice, and the design price is quoted after we see the design. Since the Eid date depends on the moon, it helps to tell us whether you want the order on chaand raat or on a particular Eid day. Please also ask about our Eid-day timings when we call to confirm your order.

Delivery or pickup

We deliver to DHA, Clifton, Keamari, Saddar, Gulshan-e-Iqbal and nearby parts of Karachi. Delivery is Rs. 200, and free on orders of Rs. 3,000 or more. The family box in the table above already crosses that line. We do not deliver very far across the city, so if your relatives live in a distant area, call us first.

Pickup is free from Bahria Complex 1, M.T. Khan Road. For Eid gifting, pickup has one real advantage: you collect everything in one trip and hand over each box yourself when you visit.

Keeping the box fresh until you gift it

Cookies and brownies are happy at room temperature in a closed box, away from sunlight and the stove. Donuts are best eaten the day you receive them. Cupcakes with frosting should go in the fridge if your home is warm, then come out a little before serving so the sponge softens.
